Goacher Family Reunion

On Sunday, May 30th 70 members of the Goacher
Family held a reunion at North Wheatley. Ten generations, all descendants
of the Goachers who came to live at Wheatley in the early 1800s. Of course, the
family has now spread world-wide. The event has been at least 4 years in the
planning stage as research had to be undertaken to find many of the family
connections. Sadly, some relations from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the
USA were unable to attend due to ill health, distance or age but we did have
members from many parts of this country and one couple from Hong Kong.
The majority of these folk had never met before, some were not aware of each
other’s existence. The days proceedings started with a service in the
Methodist Chapel which has many Goacher connections and was followed by lunch in
the Village Hall.
Here large and complicated family
trees were on show along with many items of memorabilia.
A wonderful time was had by all, family
ties were renewed and pledges made to keep in touch however great the distances
. Another event has already been suggested!
