Wheatley Wood Farm is situated about 1 mile up Wood lane at Wheatley Wood, which is a 14 acre ancient woodland - a lovely picture in the spring when it is carpeted in bluebells. Approximately 450 acres are farmed with a mix of cereals strawberries and rhubarb. The strawberries and rhubarb are all destined for supermarkets. The present partnership of David and Carole Tasker was established in 1995, with son Adam joining in 2002 (though the Tasker farming dynasty started in Wheatley in 1895). A pack house was developed in 2003 with part funding from an EU scheme for rural development. This was to enable us to pack the fruit to 1st class supermarket specifications. Most of the employees are students from Eastern Europe, starting with a small number in February, helping with construction work and rhubarb harvesting and the majority arriving mid May and early June, bringing the total to around 60. The students all live in caravans on site. Most of them come through a Government-sponsored scheme administered for us by an organisation under the umbrella of the Young Farmers Group.
