Your Local District Council Representative
HUGH BURTON
The truly local
and independent Councillor who lives here …. and works for everyone
else who lives here.
Dear
Fellow Villagers,
I am grateful that you have chosen me to represent you in three past elections.
I try to work fairly and squarely, without the limitations of any party
loyalties, to get the best deal available - for
everyone and anyone living in our Villages.
My experience over the past nine years has shown me how to push and who to push
in both District Council and the County Council- and
get things done.
I spend around four days and evenings every week as your Bassetlaw councillor,
often making a fuss to ensure that our needs are fully met, that individual
cases are properly considered – and that your good ideas are backed.
I’m
proud to have been able to help many people and communities in our villages and
help them get their wishes and needs listened to – and
often delivered!
There are many changes in local Government being planned, and without a strong
independent voice our villages could miss out – or be ignored. Not
with me they won’t – and on
b,
you might be interested to read
some of the things I have done.
I
have been keen to listen to anyone – and
will continue to do so, whenever asked.

Here are a few of the typical things I’ve done by myself - and with
others - for our Villages over the
last few years.....
 |
Retained
regular Bulk Waste Collection despite Council wishes to reduce the service.
|
 |
Continued
to work with Notts. County Council for better -
and especially - safer roads
|
 |
Successfully
resolved “Council related” problems for many, many people. |
 |
Actively
supported Sturton Parish Council - and surrounding villages - in reducing
the impact of the Sand and Gravel Quarry, the transport of materials from
the site, and gaining amenity benefits from it.
|
 |
Continued
to work with Police and Parish Councils to moderate and where possible avoid
vandalism and damage.
|
 |
Challenged
and suspended the imposition of a “Double Tax” on our villages.
Otherwise, although the Towns and Cities were getting services paid from the
general tax, when we wanted funds to spend on, typically, a sports
field or a play area we had to pay again! I have led a committee of
mainly rural councillors against this measure, and the system has ceased to
operate against us.
