Greetings from Churches Together in Wheatley “Churches
Together in Wheatley” is made up of both The Anglican Church and The Methodist
Church here in Wheatley. Details of
the Individual Churches and Services are given in the following pages …. But
what is “Churches Together”? We
are a leading East Midlands example of a Single Congregation Partnership; where
all members enjoy common membership of both Church and Chapel.
We know that separately we would be below the critical level for
effective Worship and Witness, but hope that we are and will continue to be an
effective and attractive Christian presence in our Village. What
– more importantly - do we do
???? Firstly,
we aim to retain, cherish and enhance our heritage and traditions; where neither
Chapel nor Church are diminished, but are more effective in village Worship,
Witness and Outreach. We run several lively - and popular -House Discussion Groups, providing a focus for friendship and faith, and sometimes-lively debate. If you live here or nearby, and would like know more about these popular and friendly meetings, please ask Judith Goacher, Janice Sykes. We have a Pastoral Visiting Team
devoted to those in the Community who might benefit from a regular visit.
If you know of anyone we’re missing, please tell Norma Naisbitt or
Beryl Sutcliffe. We try to provide meaningful and
relevant Worship in the Clays Group. Choose
a Sunday Service in “The Contact”, come along, and you’ll be very welcome! We run an enjoyable monthly “Senior
Citizens Lunch”, Hilary Bennett would be pleased to give you details.
Through our annual, village wide
ChristmasGreetings scheme - in co-operation with The Contact - we also provide
an annual income for the local Hospice, last year raising well over £1000.
To join in, please contact Gwynneth Anderson. In wider work, we support a long term Craft training scheme in
a group of Vietnamese villages, and give to other charities such as “Christian
Aid and “Sightsavers International” For
anyone in the Clays Group wishing to discuss Weddings and Christenings, Rev Mark
Cantrill has an evening “Surgery” at Wheatley Chapel.
On the first and third Tuesday in the month between 6.30 and 7.30, Mark
will be pleased to meet anyone wanting information, help and guidance.
Some
of our major Services and events planned in the next few months, where you would
be welcome, are ……….. “Back to Church Sunday” – on 28th Sept – an informal and lively family Service. The
Chapel Anniversary and Village Lunch,
celebrating
the presence in Wheatley of the Chapel, Sun 12th Oct 10.30 and lunch
in the Chapel at 12.30 pm.
